Carla Sharp is the Head of Youth Services at the Brighton District Library. Carla has worked professionally in the Library and Information Science field for over 25 years.
She worked 25 years for Genesee District Library, serving as Head of Adult Services and Youth Services Coordinator. Upon retirement, Carla accepted a new position with Brighton District Library. For the past twelve years she has directed and overseen all services for children ages 0-18. Her department regularly collaborates with various local agencies, schools and non-profits; including the Parent Coalition, Head Start, Early On, Child Connect for Family Success, Pregnancy Help Clinic and Great Start Livingston, offering free programs, materials and services to area children and their families.
For three years Carla served on Great Start Livingston’s Communication Committee, raising community awareness, increasing parental involvement and general knowledge of Great Start Livingston. Understanding early childhood literacy and the important role parents and caregivers play in a young child’s life, she regularly offers educational programs for child care providers, teachers, parents and home school families; programs focusing on reading readiness, the “first five years” and the value of a caring adult in a child’s life.
Carla’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University.
