Why Education Matters

Early childhood education matters

education mattersQuality early childhood experiences are the foundation of the cognitive and character skills children must have to persist in school, and be successful in college, career and life.

“By age 5, it is possible to predict, with depressing accuracy, who will complete high school and college and who won’t.” David Brooks, “The Biggest Issue,” NY Times, July 28, 2008

Reading matters

One of the biggest predictors of success is a child’s reading proficiency:

  • 75 percent of children who are poor readers at age 9 continue to have difficulty reading throughout high school
  • 10-15 percent of children who have difficulties learning to read will drop out of school
  • 98 percent of children who have difficulty reading won’t complete a four-year college program

Give your child the gift of literacy.
